Duties of Mounted Section

Volunteers undertake various roles according to their abilities, interests, and what they are comfortable with. The roles of an SES volunteer are diverse and includethe following activities 
Primary Role
  • To search for missing persons or objects
  • To rescue and retrieve missing persons or objects  where possible
                 State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers assist the Western Australia Police to conduct searches over vbvvbvball types of terrain across the state in both rural and urban areas.
vbvvbvbMost searches are undertaken for missing or injured people however, volunteers also assist Police vbvvbvblooking for criminal evidence" Land Search
  • To provide support to the Metro Operations Centre during storms, cyclones, floods, earthquakes and tsunamis.
  • To provide support to DFES’s Air Intelligence Helicopter
Secondary
  • To promote the image of the WA SES through public relations events
  • To prevent emergency situations occurring through public education
  • To assist in the preparation for emergencies
  • To attend various functions in accordance with our commitment to corporate sponsors
  • To maintain our skills at a high level through regular and challenging training sessions

Duties of Ground Crew
  • Support members and undertake non-operational roles in areas such as welfare and communications.

Conditions

Mounted Members
  • Members require their own mount and transport
  • Be proficient riders in all types of terrain
  • Contactable by phone

Ground Support Members
  • All requirements of a mounted member apply to a member of Ground Support except those requirements specifically of supplying or riding a horse.

Horses
  • Horses must be in good sound condition, shod or booted at all times
  • Tractable in company and safe in traffic.
